The first book was Sea of Tranquility a novel by Emily St. Johnson Mandel. Last year another book from Emily called Station Eleven as well as loved by book readers and was adapted into HBO limited series. The second book shared was Why we’re Polarized by Ezra Klein. This book was 2020’s bestseller deep diving into America’s political system. The third book shared was The Candy House by Jennifer Egan. This book is the sequel to Jennifer’s 2010’s novel, A visit from the Goon Squad. This book focuses on an app that helps people visualize their memories from the past and upload them on the app. The fourth book mentioned by Obama was A little devil in America: In praise of Black Performance. This book was written by Hanif Abdurraqi and it focuses on black performances in American culture. A quote from Hanif was appreciated and this was the point where his book was apprehended by many. The quote was “I was a devil in other countries and I was a little devil in American Culture.” The fifth book mentioned was To Paradise by Hanya Yanagihara.

Hanya is the author of the classic, A little Life. The book focuses on three different centuries, 1893, 1993, and 2093.
