Peter Francis Straub was born on the 2nd of March 1943 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. At an early age, Peter developed an interest in writing at the age of seven he used to sit in a wheelchair as he sustained serious injuries in an accident. His parents were not determined by his aim of being a writer, though he was interested in writing. Peter attended Milwaukee County Day School and during his schooling days, he began writing. He has his degree in BA English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison back in 1965, and MA at Colombia University in 1966. Peter moved to Ireland to pursue his career, but even after writing two novels, he wasn’t able to achieve huge success and recognition. It was the time when Peter moved on to the Horror and fictional genre.

Peter’s first ever novel written in the horror and the fictional genre was Julia which was released in 1975 and after that, he wrote If you could see me now released in 1977. After the release of Ghost Story, Peter was recognized widely as his novel gained much attention. Ghost Story was adapted into making a movie that featured Fred Astaire. After that, he wrote many novels following success including the Talisman and Blackhouse which were two big collaborations with his fellow author Stephen King. After releasing various horror genre novels, Peter entered the fictional world with various novels such as Koko, Vietnam, Mystery, The Throat, etc which were all his explorations into metafictional and unreliable narrations.

Speaking about peter’s personal life, he was survived by his wife and his children as well. He was married to Susan Bitker and the two of them share two children together. Their daughter Emma Straub is also a novelist. Although Peter lived in many places in his lifetime, he moved to New York and stayed there until his death. Peter passed away on the 4th of September 2022, at the age of 79. It was revealed that he passed away because of the complications of a broken hip.
