UKRAINE (REUTERS) – Ukraine’s Olympic Committee said on Monday that Olympic biathlete Yevhen Maylshev, who went missing last week, had died in fighting with Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine on Sunday (Feb 7). As the Kyiv Post reports, Ukrainian biathlete Yevhen Maylshev was killed in Donbas. Ukraine Ministry of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense announced in a statement Maylshev was killed on February 10 at about 9:31 pm. Even Maylshev, the Ukrainian biathlete, was killed during the fighting in the east of his country, the sports ministry announced today.

“The national biathlon champion…was killed in battle yesterday,” an official statement read. The 19-year-old died during armed clashes between Ukrainian troops and pro-Russian separatists near the eastern town of Gorlivka.
