What Happened With George Floyd?
Lane’s attorney in the case has recommended a sentence of three years and this sentence is below the sentencing guidelines. Also, the prosecutors have agreed to allow the serving and sentenced out at the same time when the accused will be sentenced. A plea agreement stated that the accused will be placed below the guidelines as he has certain responsibilities. As per the rules of Minnesota, Lane would be serving two years in sentenced prison and the rest he will serve on a supervised release. This release or supervised release can also be called parole after which he will be free to go. Prosecutors reported that even though they are happy that Lane is accepting his mistakes and is ready to move on but Floyd’s family members have not moved on from the trauma even years after the incident.
Thomas Lane Sentenced For 3 Years In George Floyd’s Murder
The murder which was committed caused revolts around Minnesota and people were angry about this case. People started talking and revolting against racial injustice. The sentence which was given on Wednesday was held remotely and Lane was in Federal Correctional Institution Englewood at that time which is a low-security federal prison camp. Lane in this sentence admitted that he created a risk and admitted his crime that he created a risk and threat to Floy’s life by placing his knee at his throat that caused his death. While it was also given out by the court that more serious aiding and second0degree murder charges which were said to be unintentional were dismissed as the accused said that he wanted to do the things.
George Floyd Murder Case
This case occurred in May 2020 and Floyd died at that time aged 46. Floyd was pinned by an officer named Derek Chauvin who pinned Floyd to the ground with a knee on his neck the officer was white. Even though Floyd kept on saying that he wasn’t able to breathe, the officer didn’t let him go and killed the black man. Lane was the one who held his legs and prevented him from moving while Tou Thao was the one officer who held the bystanders back and away from the situation. There were videos and pictures which proved that the three officers were indeed committing a racist and hateful crime. Derek ad Thao is convicted and they have been charged with a sentence of three and a half years of jail.
