Mr. Laundrie’s family reported him missing on September 17, claiming he departed for a trek on September 14 and never returned. Before his remains were recovered on October 21, teams spent weeks exploring the Carlton Reserve, a 24,000-acre park in Florida’s Sarasota County, using police dogs, drones, and all-terrain vehicles. On September 24, the FBI said that a federal arrest warrant had been issued for Mr. Laundrie for his “usage of illegal devices.” According to the indictment, he used a debit card and PIN for accounts that did not belong to him between August 30 and September 1.

Bodycam footage shows Ms. Petito weeping and complaining to cops about her mental health. She also stated that the pair were bickering more regularly. According to claims in US media, Ms. Petito was last seen outside a hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 24 – roughly 600 miles (965 km) distant from Yosemite. On September 19, after a nationwide search, investigators recovered human remains determined to be Ms. Petito in a remote section of Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park and the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Investigators have yet to reveal how and where the corpse was discovered.
